ABOUT

We welcome the support of enthusiastic people who would like to make a difference in our community! If you'd like more information about becoming a member of the Meritus Medical Center Auxiliary, please email web@meritushealth.com.
The Meritus Medical Center Auxiliary began over 100 years ago as the Ladies Aide Society in 1907. It transformed over the decades to become the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary in 1952 and then became the Meritus Medical Center Auxiliary in 2010.
Our volunteers give back to the community and assist with the mission and goals of Meritus Health by:
The volunteers of the Meritus Medical Center Auxiliary have provided more than 3.2 million hours of service since record keeping started 1952. Close to 200 volunteers, ranging in age from 14 to 90, currently support and complement patient care at Meritus Medical Center, Robinwood Professional Center and Meritus Medical Plaza on Crayton Boulevard. For those volunteers who prefer a nonhealthcare setting, they can assist at the Repeat Performance Thrift Shop on North Point Drive.
When joining the Meritus Auxiliary, volunteers commit themselves to a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer service throughout the calendar year. Volunteers at the hospital have regularly scheduled shifts, attend annual events, educational trainings and workshops as needed and celebratory gatherings that foster social connections to keep our Auxiliary thriving! Volunteering with a medical facility does require obtaining a tuberculosis test, some vaccination records, a current flu vaccine in season, safety training, background clearance, and completion of our Meritus Safety Training. All our Meritus Volunteers are Happy to Help and are committed to sharing their kindness, compassion and willingness to learn and grow with our community. We are grateful for your interest in volunteering with Meritus.
High school students, aged 14-18, are eligible for membership as Volunteens. This is a great opportunity for young people to not only contribute to their community, but also to discover if a career in health care is in their future. Teens accepted into the program may use their volunteer hours towards their student-service learning requirements.
Students 14 and 15 years old are required to volunteer in either the Meritus Medical Center gift shop or coffee shop. Students 16 years old may volunteer in nursing unit support. Students 17 and 18 years old may volunteer in the Emergency Department.

If you are looking for a way to give back to the community and assist with the mission and goals of Meritus Health without leaving your home, please consider becoming a Care Caller. Care Callers make phone calls to Meritus patients who have identified themselves on a health questionnaire as feeling a lack of companionship or loneliness. For more information, click here or contact the Meritus Care Callers program at 301-790-8491.
