Meritus Health provides language interpretation services for patients and visitors so they can participate fully in their own healthcare and in the healthcare of their loved ones. We provide to patients and visitors 24/7 audio interpreting services in over 250 spoken languages for phone calls, appointments, procedures and hospital stays. Video remote interpreting is also available in 24 languages, including American Sign Language. If requested, Meritus can arrange for in-person ASL interpreters.
- How do I request interpretation services?
When scheduling your appointment, procedure or service, please let us know that you need an interpreter. In the Emergency Department, let staff know that you need an interpreter as soon as you arrive. - Can my relative or friend act as my interpreter?
While your relative or friend may be bilingual, we want them to be there to support you, but not to act as your interpreter. Our qualified interpreters are experienced in medical settings and can be objective in difficult or emotional circumstances. If you would still prefer to use your relative or friend, we will ask you to sign a waiver declining our interpreter services. Regardless of signing the waiver, your provider may request the hospital interpreter’s presence as a witness to the conversation to ensure accuracy. - Is there a fee associated with interpreter services?
No. Interpreter services are offered free of charge to our patients and visitors.
