He previously held positions as Distinguished Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Texas and as Medical Director for surgical optimization and performance at UTMB Health System. He completed a surgical internship and otolaryngology residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda and spent five years as a U.S. Naval flight surgeon. He also completed a neurotology fellowship at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology.
