Patient rights and responsibilities
Pre-procedure instructions
Before your procedure, you should follow these important safety rules:
• Do NOT eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your procedure. *
• Do NOT smoke after midnight or the morning of your procedure.
• Do NOT drink any alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to your procedure.
• Do follow medication instructions provided to you during your pre-procedure phone call.
• Do limit the amount of people you bring with you. We request that you bring a responsible adult to drive you home.
*Colonoscopies – please follow prep instructions provided by the office.
Day of procedure instructions
• Please bring your insurance card, ID and any copay the day of your procedure.
• Please bring cases for glasses, dentures and hearing aids if necessary.
• Please wear loose, comfortable fitting clothing.
• Please do not bring any jewelry or valuables.
• Please do not wear make-up, perfume, or nail polish on your procedure day.
You will receive specific instructions from your doctor regarding your care after discharge from the surgical center.
Please remember to:
1. Have a responsible adult stay with you after your procedure.
2. Not drive, operate heavy machinery or drink alcohol for approximately 24 hours following your procedure.
3. Review provider’s instructions regarding resuming medications, eating, rest, and return to work.
4. Contact your providers with any problems following your procedure. **In case of a medical emergency please call 911.**
5. Provide the center with a good contact number so that we can follow up with you within 48 hours of your procedure.
