CASE COMPETITION

The annual Meritus Health Case Competition provides healthcare administration students an opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real-life scenarios. In this event, teams of up to 4 graduate students from across the country will analyze a case, develop innovative solutions, and present their strategy to leaders across Meritus. During the competition, students will also have the opportunity to network with Meritus senior leadership and participate in quality improvement rounding.

  • First Place: $8,000
  • Second Place: $4,000

Registration: Registration for the 2026 Meritus Health Case Competition will open in October 2025. Click here to download the registration form.

Timeline:

  • Saturday, January 10th, 2026: Case Distribution
  • Wednesday, January 14th, 2026 (12 p.m. EST): Questions due for Q&A.
  • Friday, January 16th (12:15 p.m. EST): Optional Q&A for all registered teams.
  • Friday, January 30th (3 p.m. EST): All case submissions due.
  • Monday, February 2nd: All semi-finalist teams will be notified whether or not they are invited for on-site presentations by this date.
  • Thursday, February 12th – Friday February 13th: Semi-final and final round presentations on-site at Meritus Health (Hagerstown, MD)

Rules:

  1. Teams may have no more than 4 members
  2. Students must be enrolled in a graduate program
  3. There is no limit on how many teams per school/program can register

Meritus Health Case Competition Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

1.      Do faculty advisors have to travel with the team?

a.      No, but we would encourage faculty advisors to join their team.

2.      Which teams come on-site?

a.      Eight teams will come on site to present.  All eight teams will present on the first day and then the final four teams will present on the second, final day.

3.      What types of student teams will the Meritus Case Competition accept?

a.      We will accept medical student teams, MPH student teams, MBA student teams, and MHA student teams.

4.      How many students can be on one team?

a.      We will accept teams of two to four students and strongly encourage at least three student members, but will accept teams of only two members.

5.      Is there a registration fee to participate?

a.      No, but teams will be required to sponsor their own travel and stay if they attend the first and final rounds of the Case Competition.

6.      Will the same presentation be presented for the first round and final rounds?

a.      Yes. However, teams will be offered the opportunity to make changes to their presentation for the final round, based on the feedback provided to each of the semi-finalists.

7.      What will the day(s) of the competition look like?

a.      Teams will have the opportunity to network with Meritus leadership, participate in Quality Improvement rounding, and receive a tour of the facility.

8.      Are all teams allowed to watch finalist presentations?

a.      Yes.
