Maryland Cancer Survivorship Program

Adjusting to Life After Cancer

When a patient has no signs of cancer after treatment, they are considered a cancer survivor. Medical professionals avoid using “cured” because there is always a risk that cancer can come back. Nonetheless, surviving your first battle with cancer sets the mark for a promising future. Patients who remain vigilant with cancer screening often remain in good health for years to come.

Being considered a cancer survivor is definitely a positive, but it does come with challenges. Many patients with cancer undergo treatment for a long time, sometimes years. After spending so long focusing on treatment and recovery, many patients find themselves overwhelmed post-treatment. Additionally, cancer treatments can take a physical and mental toll, and it may take some time before you are feeling completely fit and healthy again. This is why many hospitals offer cancer survivorship programs.

The Hope Soars Survivorship Program

The survivorship program at Meritus Health provides services to the cancer survivor and families. Our dedicated professionals offer many options from follow-up procedures to counseling services.
