Meritus Behavioral Health

Mental Health Treatments in Maryland

Behavioral Health Services is a comprehensive network of integrated programs and services for all people experiencing behavioral health problems to help minimize hospitalizations, stabilize and manage behavioral health symptoms, and help people achieve the highest possible level of successful functioning in their community.

Meritus Behavioral Health is recognized for increasing the awareness of issues related to behavioral health, providing wellness and prevention programs, providing crisis intervention and recovery services following traumatic events within the region, and integrating and collaborating with community medical, addiction and mental health practices to enhance continuity of care and the successful completion of treatment.

Group Treatment

Group treatment gives individuals a forum for learning together and offering one another insightful feedback, helpful suggestions and emotional support. Treatment is provided in a safe, trusting, confidential and honest environment. The group approach is often a very effective method of learning and growing along with peers who share your experiences.

Our group treatment program addresses topics selected to meet both community requests and our clients' needs. Groups usually run for sessions of eight to ten weeks, during which time we can complete assessments and assign individuals to appropriate ongoing treatment sessions.

Intensive Outpatient Program

This multifaceted program provides assessment, treatment, coordination of care, family support and group treatment for individuals impaired by mental health or addictions difficulties that do not require hospitalization. The program is available for treatment Monday through Friday.

Critical Incident Stress Management

A critical incident is a traumatic situation such as a death in the family, layoff, or severe injury that causes emotional responses that affect the person's ability to function. Areas of life impacted can include social relationships, employment or school performance and family interactions.

Meritus Behavioral Health has professionals trained for rapid response to traumatic events with individual counseling or a formal Critical Incident Stress Debriefing for the group impacted by the event. This service is available through Employee Assistance Program contracts, or by special arrangement with MBH. Contact 800-635-2774 or 301-766-7600 for further information.

Senior Services

Senior Services are designed to increase the quality of life for individuals and families facing retirement adjustment, depression, anxiety, conflict, memory loss and Alzheimer's disease. Components include assessment, diagnosis, individual, family and group treatment, coordination with community resources, family support and education.

Our experienced team of physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and support professionals are dedicated to improving the quality of life for seniors and their families.

Alcohol & Drug Treatment

Meritus Behavioral Health works in collaboration with regional treatment providers to meet the needs of the community without duplicating services. Clients are assessed and referred to the appropriate provider and level of care within the community for addictions treatment.

Our master's prepared counselors are available around the clock for phone consultations and on-site crisis assessments at the Emergency Department of Meritus Medical Center.

Concerned Person's Group- Substance Abuse

As a community service, Meritus Behavioral Health provides a support group for family and friends concerned about a loved one’s alcohol or drug use. The group is free and does not require pre-registration.

If you are lost, confused or stressed because of a loved one's addiction or substance abuse problem, this group can help you understand the disease of addiction, teach you what you can do to help yourself and your loved one, and provide emotional support. The group is led by a licensed therapist at Meritus Behavioral Health at Robinwood Professional Center, Suite 2989, 11110 Medical Campus Road, Hagerstown. Use the Robinwood Orange Entrance.

Free weekly meetings held Wednesdays at 6:00pm. No registration required. For more information, call 301-766-7600.

Emergency Psychiatric Services

Counselors are available 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year for phone consultation and on-site crisis assessments at the Emergency Department of Meritus Medical Center. Following the assessment, individuals will be returned to the appropriate level of care and provider for counseling, mental health, or addictions issues.

Emergency Psychiatric Services provides the only after-hours assessments in the county. Individuals currently under the care of another mental health provider may use Emergency Psychiatric Services if required when their own counselors are unavailable.

All patients are seen by an Emergency Department physician and a master's-prepared mental health professional to assess both the patient's physical and mental stress. Patients are always referred to the least restrictive environment.
