Each year in April, National Volunteer Week offers organizations a chance to spotlight and thank those who offer their time, talents and treasures during their "free time." All of the volunteers at Meritus Health are vital to the mission of the organization. Here are a few spotlighted during the 2022 recognition week:

• Marilyn Womack is a face many recognize when first arriving through the front lobby of Meritus Health. A volunteer since retiring in 2015, and a self-proclaimed “people lover,” Marilyn has perfected smiling with her eyes, since masks have become a common accessory for us all!

• Ali Aslam is one of the younger volunteers at Meritus Health who was a tremendous help during the most recent Day of Caring in the community. During the pandemic and when he wasn’t in classes at the University of Maryland, he supported the COVID-19 vaccine clinic.

• Mark Goller stepped up as a volunteer chaplain at Meritus Health during the COVID-19 pandemic, offering much needed support to so many in the building. He has recently devoted his service outdoors in the newly created Meritus gardens!

• Toni and Doug Valentine volunteer as a couple and many would say, serve as the foundation for the Auxiliary’s Repeat Performance Thrift Shop, a large fundraising effort for Meritus Health. Toni says they’ve always done things together, so serving side-by-side is a natural fit!

• Camryn Row gets hands-on experience volunteering in the labor and delivery area of Meritus Medical Center, a unit she would like to work on one day. She says the nursing staff has been amazing to work with and she loves the feeling of helping people and doing what she can to make someone more comfortable while in the hospital.
