Beginning Aug. 14 and continuing the second Wednesday each month, Meritus Health will offer free safety seat checks by appointment between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Trained safety seat technicians will work with attendees to check for proper installation and proper fit of all restraints for children brought to the event. Monthly checks will take place in the valet parking area of Meritus Medical Center's parking lot. In the case of inclement weather, the appointments will move near the ambulance entrance of the hospital. All children younger than age eight and smaller than 4 feet 9 inches tall must ride in an appropriate car seat, booster seat or other federally approved safety devices when in a motor vehicle in Maryland, according to Maryland Kids In Safety Seats.
