The Department of Spiritual Services oversees both formal and informal training programs for persons seeking to enhance their pastoral caregiving skills and abilities. These include lectures, discussion groups, conferences, and year-round Clinical Pastoral Education. Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is interfaith professional education for ministry that brings seminary students, ministers, and laypersons of all faiths into encounters with those who are ill or in crisis. Out of an intense involvement with persons in need, and the feedback from peers, mentors, and supervisors, trainees develop new awareness of themselves as individuals and of the needs of those to whom they minister. From theological reflection on specific human situations, they gain a new understanding of ministry. Contact us for dates of training or to discuss more learning opportunities at 301-790-8479.
