Our Team

Whether it is the concern for cancer or a diagnosis, you want the best possible outcome. Our board certified physicians bring years of experience, academic achievements and national research to our community. Our multidisciplinary care team at the John R. Marsh Cancer Center consists of board-certified surgeons, radiologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists and nurses and rehabilitation therapists.

Shaju Shamsuddin, M.D., Director of Radiation Oncology

Dr. Shamsuddin earned his medical degree from Bangalore University M.S. Ramaiah Medical College in Bangalore, India. He completed his residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland Case Western University in Ohio and a fellowship at University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Shamsuddin is board certified in radiation oncology.

Michael McCormack, M.D.

Dr. McCormack earned his medical degree from Georgetown University in the District of Columbia and completed a residency in internal medicine at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Conn. He completed his specialty in oncology at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

Frederic H. Kass III, M.D., FACP, Medical Director, John R. Marsh Cancer Center

Dr. Kass received his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in the District of Columbia. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va. and completed a fellowship in hematology-medical oncology at the George Washington University Medical Center. Dr. Kass has served as medical director for the John R. Marsh Cancer Center since 1996.

Victoria Giffi, M.D.

Dr. Giffi earned her medical degree from University of Maryland in Baltimore, Md., where she also completed her residency. She has finished a 3-year fellowship at the Marlene & Stewart Greenbaum Cancer Center. Dr. Giffi is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology with the American Board of Internal Medicine.

David S. Kotlyar, M.D.

Dr. Kotlyar earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa. and completed an internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, N.Y. He completed a fellowship in hematology-oncology at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. and is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology.

Syed Shahid Mahmood, M.D.

Dr. Mahmood earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Boston University Medical Center and completed his fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center in Baltimore, Md. Dr. Mahmood is board certified in both oncology and internal medicine and is board eligible in hematology.

Ann-Marie Hugh, M.D.,FACS, Medical Director, Meritus Center for Breast Health

Dr. Hugh earned her medical degree from Howard University, College of Medicine in the District of Columbia. She completed her general surgery residency at Howard University Hospital and her breast surgical oncology fellowship at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in the District of Columbia. She is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

Stephen M. Sachs, M.D., FACS

Stephen Sachs, M.D., earned his medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., and completed his residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. He completed a fellowship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., and is board certified in both general and vascular surgery with the American Board of Surgery.

Kristy C. Hose, M.S.N., ANP-BC, nurse practitioner

Kristy Hose is a nurse practitioner with more than 17 years of patient care experience, with 5 of those years spent caring for patients with cancer. She is a board certified adult nurse practitioner. Kristy focuses on holistic care and providing comprehensive, personalized care to her patients. She specializes in high risk assessment for female cancer and has been instrumental in the creation of the high risk program at Meritus. Kristy recently completed the intensive course in cancer risk assessment through City of Hope – Division of Clinical Cancer Genetics.

Neil Rosenshein, M.D., FACOG, Medical Director, Meritus Gynecologic Oncology Center

Dr. Rosenshein, a gynecologic oncologist, earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Fla., and completed his residency at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. He completed fellowships in gynecologic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, N.Y., and at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. During Dr. Rosenshein’s extensive career, he has authored books, published articles, conducted medical research and won numerous awards. For 15 years, he served as the director of gynecologic oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Known nationally and locally as a champion of women’s health, his passion is to educate women outside major urban areas about ovarian, endometrial and cervical cancer. Dr. Rosenshein’s area of interest includes complex gynecologic surgery, ovarian, cervical and uterine cancers
