Hagerstown Foot Drop Therapy
Treatment for Foot Drop
If you have difficulty lifting the front part of your foot, drag the front of your foot on the ground when you walk or overcompensate for your foot when walking, you may have foot drop. Foot drop is often related to multiple sclerosis, stroke, cerebral palsy, incomplete spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury or other neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease.
The Bioness L300 is an advanced foot drop system that is designed to use mild stimulation to lift your foot and help you walk more easily. It is designed to help patients who are suffering from foot drop regain a more normal way of walking—including on flat ground, up and down stairs and on uneven surfaces. The L300 fits on the leg just below the knee and can be attached and removed with one hand.
Benefits of the Bioness L300
This custom fitted device is made up of three main parts. The wireless and user-friendly device works via a unique gait sensor that attaches to your shoe. The sensor communicates your heel position to the leg cuff and a mild electrical stimulation activates the nerves that lift the toes. A hand-held remote control allows patients to adjust the level of stimulation as needed. With many patients, this new technology can replace the use of their ankle-foot orthosis.
The L300 can:
- Support muscle re-education
- Prevent or delay muscle deterioration
- Maintains or improve range of motion
- Increase blood circulation
- Mimic a normal walking pattern.
The L300 may not be right for people suffering from peripheral nerve disease or injury such as Guillain-Barre Syndrome or those with certain types of pacemakers or implants, fractures, dislocations, or cancer of the leg. To see if the Bioness L300 is right for you, contact your primary care physician or call Meritus Physical Therapy at 301-714-4025 for more information.
