Breathe easy lung tree

Lung cancer is the deadliest cancer, claiming more lives in Maryland yearly than breast, prostate and colon cancers combined.

Currently, only about 15 percent of lung cancers are diagnosed in the early stages when lung cancer is more likely to be cured with surgical treatment.

Thankfully, in recent years, doctors have found a test that can screen for lung cancer in high-risk patients known as a “LD (Low Dose) CT Lung Scan”. This test can find lung cancer much earlier and reduce the patient’s risk of dying from the disease. The goal of LD CT Lung Cancer Screening is to detect cancer when it is very small, before it has spread to other sites in the body and before the patient has any symptoms. LD CT Chest Scans can identify Lung Cancer in patients as early as Stage 1 which, when treated, can produce a 5 year survival rate of 92%

Listen to Health Matters radio show with Jasmine Pega, PA, discussing Lung Cancer Screening.

Our Free Lung Cancer Screening Program will assess patients and, if indicated, provide Low Dose CT Chest Scans to those who do NOT have health insurance or are underinsured and qualify for our program based on their financial needs, their smoking history and their current health status. Screening Clinics

Clinics will be held once a quarter in Suite 243A of Robinwood Professional Center and participants must schedule an appointment.

Our Nurse Practitioners will examine, assess and discuss the value that Lung Cancer Screening may provide patient so that those who qualify may make an informed decision as to whether they want to participate in our program and the followup that may be recommended. If indicated, Low Dose CT Chest Scans will be performed at Diagnostic Imaging Services, sometimes as soon as the same day.

If you or someone you know would like more information or to make an appointment for our next Free Lung Cancer Screening Clinic, please call 301-665-4671.
