HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Dr. Aaron George has been named the 2023 Young Professional of the Year at the Washington County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Business Awards.

“Dr. George is so deserving of this honor,” said Maulik Joshi, Dr.P.H., President and CEO, Meritus Health. “He’s been a committed and dedicated leader through the COVID pandemic and has led very successful initiatives to enhance patient safety and quality, and to reduce unnecessary testing and lab work at the hospital. He’s consistently going above and beyond, and his passion for medicine and our community continues to show in all that he does. We are so appreciative of him being one of the early leaders in the development of the proposed Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine.”

Dr. George was recently named by Meritus Health as the first Associate Dean of Clinical Education, Community Development for the proposed Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine. Ahead of this announcement, Dr. Aaron George had served as the system’s Chief Medical Officer.

“Over the past twelve months, caregivers in our hospital and health care setting have given an extreme amount of attention, care and dedication to our community, supporting a public health crisis and extreme surges of illness,” Dr. Aaron George said. “I’ve been honored to lead dedicated teams through the challenges and excited to help prepare the next generation of caregivers who will continue to shine opportunity on health and wellness in our community.”
