Meritus Health celebrates growth, expanded services

Over the last 18 months, Meritus Health has had the privilege of welcoming new practices and services to the health system, truly defining the mission of “Expert Care, Close to Home.”

“We are thankful to provide the care that our neighbors need and deserve," said Maulik Joshi, Dr.P.H., president and CEO. "We continuously consider the growing and changing needs of our community and work to ensure Meritus is providing the right care and the best access to that care.”

In June 2021, Meritus Health expanded its urgent care services with the addition of After Hours Pediatrics, a service designed specifically for parents who need to see a pediatrician and can’t wait for their doctor’s office to open.

In August of 2021, Meritus Pulmonary Consultants came on board with offices in Hagerstown, Frederick and Waynesboro, Pa. The change accommodated more patients who needed pulmonary and sleep medicine care in the region.

At the beginning of 2022, Meritus Health expanded services with the addition of Meritus Robinwood Orthopedics. In addition to adding orthopedic specialists, therapy services were expanded.

In April, Meritus Health made strides in changing the cardiovascular health of the community by welcoming Meritus Hagerstown Heart, reinforcing the integrated model of care that has proven to provide the best outcomes for patients.

In May, Meritus entered into a joint venture with Cumberland Valley Surgery Center.

By September, a long-time allergy and asthma practice joined the healthcare system. Dr. Paul Mauriello and associates joined as Meritus Allergy & Asthma Specialists.

“Coordinating care across specialists is the best kind of care because it is designed with the patient’s individual needs in mind,” according to Dave Lehr, chief strategy officer.

Also coming onboard to the Meritus family in 2022, was Dr. Philip Charles Corcoran, a thoracic surgeon. His expert-level skill provides another coordinated care opportunity for patients in need of varying chest surgery, including esophageal disease, diaphragmatic procedures and chest wall reconstruction post-trauma.

Just before the Thanksgiving holiday, a long-time plastic and reconstructive surgery practice joined the healthcare system as Meritus Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery. Bringing together the talents of Dr. Salvatore DiMercurio to the existing Meritus team, which includes Dr. Matthew Malamet.

“Although 2022 is nearing an end, we are already looking forward to what’s next. We will be welcoming a new specialty – rheumatology. We’ll also be better able to care for our neighbors in Cascade, with the opening of an office there,” Joshi said. “2023 and beyond is going to be an exciting time for Meritus, and we’re all eagerly looking forward to what’s on the horizon.”
