Meritus Health Hosts Maryland Governor Hogan; Health Care Heroes and COVID-19 Response Highlighted

Press Releases

Meritus Health hosted Governor Larry Hogan Wednesday morning as part of the top executive’s tour of Western Maryland. Leaders of the health system offered the governor a quick tour of several patient care areas in the hospital, where he learned of the local response to the COVID-19 pandemic and met many of the area’s health care heroes.

Since the start of the pandemic, the Meritus COVID-19 drive-thru screening center has collected 270,000 tests from as many as 1,000 patients a day during the height of the virus. Meritus Medical Center’s teams have treated 3,000 patients for COVID-19 in the hospital, caring for as many as 100 patients a day during pandemic surges. Additionally, the health system was one of the only ones in the state to maintain a public vaccination clinic, giving nearly 100,000 vaccines by appointment, walk-in options and a mobile clinic accessing all areas of the community.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support of the state for all of the work accomplished here in our community,” said Maulik Joshi, Dr.P.H., president and CEO of Meritus Health. “It’s great to be able to host the governor and connect him to our teams of health care heroes.”
