Meritus Pharmacy to offer easy option for patients being discharged from the hospital
After an injury, illness or medical procedure requiring a hospital stay, patients are ready to continue healing from the comfort of their home. Being discharged from the hospital takes coordination with follow-up medical appointments, home care plans, physical therapy and often continued medication.
Now, patients leaving Meritus Medical Center will have a more convenient option, with a retail pharmacy located within the building near the main entrance.
“We want things to be easy and stress-free for our patients as much as possible,” explained Meritus Health President and CEO Maulik Joshi, Dr.P.H. “Convenience isn’t the only benefit to patients using Meritus Pharmacy. Research continues to tell us that patients who leave the hospital with the medications they need experience better outcomes,” he said.
“A loved one can now easily, within just a few steps, get a prescription filled and leave the hospital with the tools needed to properly recover,” Joseph Scalese, pharmacy manager, explained. “Our pharmacy offers competitive prices and a variety of over-the-counter medications, as well. We offer curbside pick-up for those who need it, vaccinations and services to our team members,” he said.
In addition to those services, Meritus Pharmacy is also approved through the state of Maryland as an official drug take back and drop-off location. Anyone in need of having prescription medication destroyed, can utilize a green bin on the sales floor of the pharmacy, and do so with no questions asked.
