Meritus holding pediatric COVID-19 vaccination clinic Saturday

Meritus Health is offering walk-in pediatric vaccinations for COVID-19 this Saturday at the Robinwood Professional Center, the health care nonprofit announced Thursday.

Earlier this week, U.S. health officials signed off on Pfizer's kid-size COVID-19 shot. On Wednesday, Maryland health officials authorized providers across the state to immediately begin scheduling appointments, holding clinics and vaccinating 5- to 11-year-olds.

Children ages 12 and older could already receive vaccinations.

Parents of children ages 5 and older can walk into the Robinwood Professional Center atrium between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday to have their child's initial dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine administered, according to an email from Meritus Health spokeswoman Joelle Butler. Use the blue or silver entrance to access the atrium.

To request an appointment for an eligible child rather than walking in, parents are asked to email the child's name, date of birth and address, as well as the parent's name and contact information, to covid.vaccine@meritushealth.com. Someone from the clinic will contact the parent.

Meritus also is partnering with the Washington County Health Department and Washington County Public Schools in organizing pediatric vaccination clinics at a limited number of schools.

Eligible children would receive a two-dose Pfizer vaccine — so they would need to return for a second shot, school system spokeswoman Erin Anderson said Wednesday.

"We are working diligently with the Washington County Public Schools and the Washington County Health Department to finalize logistics for school-based and community mobile clinics for COVID-19 vaccinations for our youngest residents,” Meritus Health President and CEO Maulik Joshi said in an emailed statement.

“These will roll out as early as next week to make access to the vaccines convenient and available for families all across Washington County," Joshi said. "COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective and vital to help bring an end to this pandemic that continues to harm our community."
