Protecting our Community’s Children

Foundation

Through the generosity of the Cornerstone Giving Club members, we have recently unveiled an innovative and exciting educational display to help protect the tiniest people we know, ones who count on us to shield them from danger. As our community grows, so does the Meritus Health commitment to keep babies safe and healthy!

Each year, thousands of babies die due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and thousands more are hurt by electricity, strangulation or crush injuries. During the last reporting period, it was identified that infants residing in Washington County had the highest referral rate for Sudden Unexplained Infant Death (SUID) deaths in the state of Maryland (231.5 per 100,000 infants). These statistics make it clear that education of our community is critical.

A safe nursery and sleep environment is proven to be key and a great start to reduce SIDS deaths and the horrible injuries mentioned above. The back to sleep education display includes bold educational signage – DO’S and DON’TS – for a safe nursery and in addition to the display, patients and families are provided matching educational materials to recall essential safety details at home.Back to Sleep display
