Press Releases

Meritus Medical Center’s cardiac catheterization lab team has received the 2017 Mission: Lifeline® Silver Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. Nationally respected clinical guidelines for the quick and appropriate treatment of ST elevation myocardial infarction or STEMI patients had to be adhered to at a set level for 12 consecutive months for hospital care teams to be eligible.

Silver-level recognition is specifically for hospital teams who have achieved at least 85 percent composite adherence to receiving center performance achievement indicators and at least 75 percent compliance on all receiving center quality measures. The team was last recognized at the bronze level.

STEMI is the most deadly type of heart attach caused by a blockage of blood flow to the heart that requires timely treatment, according to the American Heart Association. Each year in the U.S., approximately 250,000 people have a STEMI.
