Earlier this month, the South Mountain Rod and Gun Club honored one of their own with a golf tournament. Ronald Stottlemyer passed away Jan. 27, 2014, from esophageal cancer. Funds from the tournament in Stottlemyer's honor - more than $900 - were presented to Dr. Michael McCormack of Meritus Health's John R. Marsh Cancer Center to benefit the patient emergency fund.
"His passing was unexpected," says Sara Stottlemyer, Ronald's wife. "Everyone misses him. Dr. McCormack took great care of my husband and I wanted to do something for him." According to Sara, the golf tournament was one way the club could remember Ronald while doing something to help the family say "thank you."
The patient emergency fund assists Dr. McCormack and other physicians to care for patients with financial needs. The money helps with co-pays, medical equipment, follow-up screenings, transportation and other expenses that create undue burden on patients already dealing with significant diagnoses.
Sara Stottlemyer recently presented the check to Dr. McCormack at Meritus Health's John R. Marsh Cancer Center.
