Congratulations to Tamara Ware, RN, February 2014's DAISY Nurse Award winner! A patient's mother nominated Tamara with this note: "My son was diagnosed with stage IV lymphoma. Tammy was Joey's nurse for his first chemo treatment. She explained everything to him. The first treatment went like clockwork. She relieved all of Joey's anxiety about his treatment. He received chemo for four days throughout three weeks. Every time Joey arrived, he got the 'red carpet' treatment, as did his family. Tammy was amazing with how she treated Joey through his ups and downs. She followed him throughout his illness. She was always compassionate and knew how to relieve his anxiety when he would get upset. When he did not feel good, she always took time out for him. Her TLC was absolutely kind and caring. She would rub his back or just hold his hand. When he turned 30, she made a birthday cake and celebrated with his family and the staff. Joey began the DAISY nomination form for Tammy, but we had to finish it for him. Tammy and the staff of 5 East came to the ED the day Joey died. Joey would truly be honored if Tammy received this award." Other nurses nominated for the February DAISY Nurse award were Brian Bearese, Wendy Burhman, Karessa Cameron and Ryan Yost.
