Hagerstown, MD (May 5, 2011) - Meritus Medical Center recently named its 2011 Professional Nurse of the Year award winners. This award is given annually to a clinical and an administrative nurse who best exemplify the outstanding qualities of a professional nurse. This year's award winners are Jim Recabo, RN, and Mindy Barnhart, RN.
The Administrative Nurse of the Year award was presented to Jim Recabo, administrative nursing supervisor.
"When one thinks of professionalism, one thinks of this person as being a role model here at Meritus Medical Center," stated his nomination. "[He] makes an attempt to touch as many staff members as possible, if nothing but to say hello, but often [he] is the link between the voice of staff and the ears of administration."
Jim was also recognized for the instrumental role he played during the patient move from Washington County Hospital to Meritus Medical Center on December 11, 2010.
The recipient of the Clinical Nurse of the Year award, Mindy Barnhart, was recognized for her organizational skills, willingness to help, professionalism, and bedside manner. Mindy is the clinical educator in the emergency department.
"She is always eager to volunteer for projects or anything that she thinks that can better not only our department, but the entire organization. She is a wealth of knowledge for our staff and is always willing to help anyone. When she is working in the clinical role, she is proactive in finding things to do and people to help. Her patients absolutely love her and the care that she provides. She represents Meritus Medical Center in a positive way and the organization is lucky to have her," wrote the individual who nominated her for this award.
Nurses are nominated and selected for the awards based on their contributions to their area of expertise, professionalism, and education. Other professional nurse of the year nominees included Misha Palladino, Kendra Shupp, Heather Mathews, Carol Warnick, and Cindy Lewis.
