Step 1: Scheduling

Before therapy can begin, we need to understand your child’s current abilities and areas that may require our help. Call our front office to set up an initial evaluation. Children are referred for therapy from their primary care physician, who is updated monthly on progress in therapy.  If you are concerned about your child’s development or school performance, please contact your pediatrician or primary care physician to discuss a referral to Meritus Physical Therapy - Pediatrics. We accept all major insurance carriers as well as medical assistance from health programs in the state of Maryland. Each evaluation lasts approximately 60 minutes.

Step 2: Evaluation

Evaluation procedures will include observing your child play on equipment or with a toy, how they adapt in a new environment, and/or interacting with others. There may also be more standardized testing which would be using tools and testing kits to have your child perform specific skills, these help to provide a reference point on how your child compares to other children their age.

Step 3: Results

After the evaluation is completed, the therapist will provide you with an overview of your child’s performance. The decision to move forward with therapy is always up to you. Tele-health visits and after school visits are available.

Step 4: Sessions

Meritus Physical Therapy – Pediatrics provides therapy through using age-appropriate, developmental activities. We follow the interests of your child which helps to build rapport and achieves greater therapy outcomes. In addition to finding ways to motivate your child, attending therapy sessions regularly also impacts their progress. We do have parents to review our attendance policy for attending therapy and providing notice of cancelation which your therapist will review with you.
