MERITUS NEUROSURGERY

Meritus Health expands access to care, welcomes neurosurgery services

July 17, 2023 - Press Release

Meritus Health is proud to announce the launch of Meritus Neurosurgery, which provides advanced and caring treatment for people with brain and spinal conditions. This expansion includes the addition of neurosurgeon, Dr. Gentian Toshkezi.

Dr. Toshkezi studied medicine at the University of Medicine in Tirana, Albania. He trained in neurosurgery at Beaujon Hospital in Paris, France, and SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y. Additionally, he completed a neurosurgery fellowship at the Boston Medical Center in Boston, Mass.

“I’m thrilled to bring this service to the area and be a part of the Meritus team of dedicated providers. No one should be burdened with extensive travel for advanced care; they need to spend that time healing instead,” Dr. Toshkezi said.

Dr. Toshkezi will also serve Meritus as medical director of neurosurgery, and lead the program for the health system.

Neurosurgery is a type of medical treatment that focuses on fixing problems in the brain and spine. Neurosurgeons specialize in conditions like brain tumors, brain injuries, strokes and problems with the spinal cord.

As a Level III Trauma Center, Dr. Toshkezi will play a pivotal role in providing care to patients who may need brain surgery following a traumatic accident, for example. This advanced level of care will allow a patient to stay at Meritus and eliminate the need for transport to another facility.

"Our neighbors, their families, and loved ones no longer need to travel out of the area for neurosurgical services. We are always looking for ways to expand our services under the trusted name of Meritus, and this is just the latest example of our continued commitment," said Dave Lehr, Chief Strategy Officer.

To make an appointment, you need a referral. For more information about our neurosurgery services, visit MeritusHealth.com/Neurosurgery.
