MERITUS LEADER APPOINTED

Meritus leader appointed to Maryland Commission on Public Health

October 24, 2023 - Press Release

Allen Twigg, Executive Director of Behavioral and Community Health, Meritus Health, has been appointed by Governor Wes Moore to serve on the state’s Commission on Public Health.

Twigg is the third Meritus Health leader to serve on Governor-appointed commissions.  Dave Lehr, Chief Strategy Office serves on the Community Health Resources Commission, and Maulik Joshi, Dr.P.H., President and CEO, serves on the Health Services Cost Review Commission.

“It’s an honor to see our leaders and colleagues being selected to serve on these important commissions,” said Joshi.  “We are all so committed to improving health, and I’m thrilled to see an opportunity for that commitment and passion to be applied to improving care across the state.”

The Commission on Public Health was formed by the Maryland General Assembly on June 1, 2023 with clearly outlined objectives by the Governor.  First, the Commission is to conduct an assessment of the foundational public health capabilities of the Maryland Department of Health and local health departments. Then, it will recommend how to improve the delivery of foundational public health services in Maryland.

In addition to leading Meritus Health’s behavioral health and community health services, he co-leads Healthy Washington County, the local health improvement coalition.

“I am honored to serve on this commission and will work hard to find opportunities to improve public health services across Maryland,” Twigg said.  “I’ve seen the positive impact on the health of community when you harness the power of collaboration and working together.  I look forward to contributing to this Commission and developing action plans to make needed to advance Maryland communities and the quality of life of the people who live in them.”
