Meritus welcomes world-renowned surgeon as new Chief Surgical Officer

July 11, 2023 - Press Release

Meritus Health has announced Dr. Adrian Park, a world-renowned surgeon, will join the organization as the Chief Surgical Officer. Additionally, he will serve the proposed Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine as an Associate Dean of Research and Innovation.

Dr. Park has made major advancements in the improvement of laparoscopic techniques and technology, complex hernia repair, foregut and spleen surgery. Dr. Park holds over 20 patents and has been instrumental in the development and application of new technologies in endoscopic surgery. Dr. Park joins Meritus from Luminis Health, where he served as the James and Sylvia Earl Chair of Surgery and Surgeon in Chief, and Professor of Surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

“Dr. Park’s wealth of experience and talent will surely have a positive impact on our organization and our community,” Meritus President and CEO, Maulik Joshi, Dr. P.H., said. “Bringing world-class experts to our community allows our organization to continue to grow and achieve the high-quality standards our community deserves.”

In addition to serving as a senior leader, Dr. Park will care for patients and perform advanced, minimally-invasive surgeries at Meritus Medical Center. He will see patients in Hagerstown and in Frederick, where Meritus is establishing a new clinic.

“I am honored to bring this level of care to Western Maryland,” he said. “I see a tremendous opportunity to enhance surgical options at Meritus so patients do not need to travel for advanced care. I am passionate about bringing innovation and surgery together, because it means people with complicated medical issues find relief and healing.”
