Meritus Medical Center has the advantage of an active Auxiliary that serves the hospital and community by both volunteering and fundraising activities.

Over 300 volunteers serve at Meritus Medical Center and Robinwood Professional Center. Volunteers range in age from adolescent Volunteens through very active seniors, some in their nineties.

An active Auxiliary volunteer is asked to commit to a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer time a year, plus pay the $5.00 yearly dues. An associate Auxiliary volunteer can pay $7.00 a year, and only volunteer for special events.

If a volunteer works four hours in one day, they are given a $5.00 complimentary pass for the hospital cafeteria. Volunteers are given free parking in our hospital garage.

Giving back to the community is a positive experience enjoyed by volunteers that is only enhanced by a strong sense of camaraderie. Presently, there is a great need for weekend and evening volunteers. Volunteers lend a helping hand by:

• assisting at the information desk
• greeting visitors in various departments
• transporting patients
• delivering flowers
• delivering mail to patients
• assisting in the gift shop
• assisting in the following departments: emergency department, volunteer services, medical / surgical floors, total rehab, coffee shop, and the John R. Marsh Cancer Center
• welcoming new patients

The monies generated by the various Auxiliary fundraisers will benefit the hospital and community by going towards the new hospital fund. Annually the Auxiliary runs the Tree of Lights campaign. The Auxiliary sponsors book fairs, uniform sales, bazaars, jewelry, and other fun fundraisers.

Throughout the fifty year history of the Auxiliary, over three million hours of service and over $4 million in monetary gifts have been donated.
