We’re Getting Fresh

At Meritus Medical Center, we take pride in offering our patients the very best in nutrition and taste. After all, the healthier you eat, the quicker your recovery can be. That’s why we’ve initiated a program to bring local and hydroponically grown produce to the menu.

Chef Joe Fleischman now purchases ripe tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers, crisp lettuce, and more at the peak of freshness from local farmers. “It’s a far superior product than what you can buy commercially. We know where it comes from, the taste of the product is better, and it’s much fresher,” Chef Joe said.

Much of the produce comes from a local hydroponic farm that grows the food in a way that doesn’t need heavy pesticides, fertilizers, or even soil. Meritus Medical Center is one of only a few Maryland hospitals that are serving locally grown produce to patients and staff.
