Current Residency Preceptors

Amber Chiplinski, Pharm.D., BCPS

Dr. Amber Chiplinski is the Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator for Meritus Medical Center and The PGY-1 Residency Program Director. She is a graduate of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy with a doctorate in pharmacy. Dr. Chiplinski completed her PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Penn State Hershey Medical Center and achieved board certification in pharmacotherapy. She also holds certificates in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support. Prior to becoming the Clinical Coordinator at Meritus Medical Center, she worked as the Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Meritus. Prior to joining Meritus Medical Center, Dr. Chiplinski worked in academics and clinically in a private critical care practice. Her areas of interest include infectious diseases, critical care, septic shock and substance abuse.

Carrie Adams, Pharm.D.

Carrie Adams, Pharm.D.

Dr. Carrie Adams is the Corporate Director of Pharmacy Services for Trivergent Health Alliance MSO, a management services organization that provides regional healthcare services to Frederick Memorial Hospital, Meritus Health and Western Maryland Health System. Dr. Adams obtained her Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from the Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio and completed her doctorate in pharmacy from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va. Dr. Adams is the preceptor for the pharmacy administration rotation. Previously, she was the pharmacy director for Meritus Health. Dr. Adams has Lean Healthcare experience and is a certified greenbelt in Six Sigma.

Katelyn Andrews, Pharm.D

Dr. Katelyn Andrews is the emergency department clinical pharmacist for Meritus Medical Center. She is a graduate of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy with a doctorate in pharmacy. Dr. Andrews completed her PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Meritus Medical Center. She also completed a Teaching Certificate Program at Shenandoah University and holds certificates in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support. Her areas of interest include infectious diseases, critical care, and toxicology. Dr. Andrews is the preceptor for the emergency medicine rotation.

Julie Shupp, RPh

Shawn Boland, Pharm.D., MS

Shawn Boland, Pharm.D., MS

Dr. Shawn Boland is the medication safety officer for Meritus Medical Center as well as a residency advisor. She received her doctorate in pharmacy from West Virginia University in Morgantown, W. Va. After transitioning to the hospital setting, she completed the ASHP Pharmacy Leadership Academy and went on to receive a Master of Science from the University of Florida with a focus in institutional pharmacy leadership. Dr. Boland is the preceptor for the medication safety rotation.

Cassandra Clevenger, Pharm.D.

Dr. Cassandra Clevenger is the outpatient care management / medication therapy management pharmacist for Meritus Medical Center. She received her doctorate in pharmacy from West Virginia University in Morgantown, W.Va. Prior to her new role as the outpatient clinical pharmacist, Cassandra completed three years of inpatient pharmacy practice rotating through the various clinical and staff pharmacist positions at Meritus Medical Center. Dr. Clevenger is the preceptor for the outpatient care rotation.

Charles Downs, Pharm.D.

Charles Downs, Pharm.D.

Dr. Charles Downs is the informatics pharmacist for the Meritus Medical Center. He received both his Bachelor of Science in pharmacy and his doctorate of pharmacy from the University of Maryland. He has worked with Meditech since the hospital adopted it and has been active in the Meditech users group over the years, serving as international peer group leader in 2000. He also serves on the Meditech pharmacy advisory committee and has also served as a member of the ASHP informatics SAG. Dr. Downs is the preceptor for the pharmacy informatics rotation.

Bobbi Hilker, Pharm.D., CACP, BCPS

Dr. Bobbi Hilker is the anticoagulation pharmacy specialist for Meritus Medical Center. She received her Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa. After moving back to Maryland, she went on to earn her doctorate of pharmacy from the University of Maryland. Dr. Hilker is a certified anticoagulation provider and is the preceptor for the unit-based pharmacist rotation.

Deirdre Jones, Pharm.D., BCNSP

Deirdre Jones, Pharm.D., BCNSP

Dr. Deirdre Jones is a clinical staff pharmacist at Meritus Medical Center. She received her Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. She then completed a PGY1 residency at the John Dempsy Hospital in Farmington, Conn. Afterwards, she completed her doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Florida in Gainsville, Fla., and worked for Arnold Palmer Hospital for Women and Children in Orlando, Fla. Dr. Jones is a board-certified nutrition support pharmacist. Her areas of subspecialty include nutrition support and pediatrics. Dr. Jones is the preceptor for pediatrics and nutritional support rotations.

Julie Shupp, RPh

Julie Shupp is the oncology pharmacist at Meritus Health's John Marsh Cancer Center. Julie received her Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Prior to her current position, she worked at Meritus Medical Center in the inpatient pharmacy. She is currently pursuing her board certification in oncology. Mrs. Shupp is the preceptor for the chemotherapy rotation.
